Description
Ozone can be produced when synchrotron white beams interact with air, but reported G-values vary with irradiation conditions and experimental configuration. In this preliminary study, ozone production was measured in a sealed air chamber using a bending-magnet white beam at four opening angles (0.177-0.5 mrad). The absorbed energy in air was calculated from the white-beam spectrum and air energy-absorption data. The G-value was calculated using the absorbed energy in air and the ozone concentration estimated at beam-off. The resulting values ranged from 1.252 to 1.744 molecules/100 eV, with a mean of 1.520 ± 0.207. The measurements were limited by the 0.5 ppm upper range of the ozone monitor, requiring irradiation to be restricted to 5 s. Further experiments using a wider-range UV absorption ozone monitor and additional white-beam conditions and beamlines are planned to refine the G-value evaluation and support ozone assessment in synchrotron beamline environments.
